Golden Hop is a great climber to add an exotic, almost jungle feel to a corner of your garden. Grow up a pergola and it will cover it in no time with large golden leaves.
In autumn it becomes even more golden in colour and is covered in pale green cone-shaped flowers. Plant it next to purple flowers or leaves and the golden colour will be emphasised even further.
Not fussy on soil types this is a very easy plant to grow. Plant in full sun or partial shade.
For the most golden colour it needs plenty of sun. It can be cut back hard in early spring to encourage new growth and mulch with well-rotted compost or manure.
The Golden Hop plant does not like to get too dry and so water in prolonged drought or mulch the surrounding soil well to preserve moisture.
To propagate take cuttings in spring and summer. It tends to send up lots of shoots around the base and often one of these can be dug up and planted elsewhere.
